Participants in the AWESOME Symposium in May 2013 mentioned the following as issues and obstacles facing women across industries.
There are more men in top spots – they naturally form a network in which women are not included.
Women are primarily the ones who juggle work and family – “They compete with men on a playing field that isn’t level.”
Even when women capably manage both family and career, the perception is that they will compromise their work or “lean out.”
Female leaders are judged differently than their male peers demonstrated leadership qualities differently.
Discrimination still happens, but is more subtle now.
