AWESOME, the leadership initiative launched in early 2013 to advance women supply leaders, has selected two businesses to receive the 2014 Company Leadership Award. Danaher Corporation and Johnson & Johnson were chosen for creating an environment where leaders, regardless of gender, can succeed and advance.

According to Ann Drake, founder of AWESOME (Achieving Women’s Excellence in Supply Chain Operations, Management and Education) and CEO of DSC Logistics, “No leader can realize his or her full potential in a vacuum. A leader is part of a team, a culture, and a value system. These companies realize that leaders’ competency and performance ultimately affect business success, as evidenced by the outstanding women who have advanced in their organizations.”

The Company Leadership Award was announced at the Second Annual AWESOME Symposium in May, where two executives, one each from Danaher and J&J, received the 2014 AWESOME Legendary Leadership Award – the “ALL” Award – for their professional accomplishments. They are Heather Sheehan, Danaher’s Vice President, Indirect Sourcing and Logistics, and Kathryn Wengel, Vice President, J&J Supply Chain.

AWESOME has established a network of senior supply chain women and a website, www.awesomeleaders.org for the purposes of learning and collaboration. The organization’s next events will take place at the Global Conference of CSCMP (Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals) September 21-24 in San Antoinio.
