In any discussion on talent – such as the discussion by panelists in the CSCMP mega session powered by AWESOME – the word “flexibility” comes up as something employees expect in their jobs. An article in the New York Times explores the idea that millennials may be the main ones changing the perspective on flexible work routines, but not the only ones. Kathy Wengel, EVP and Chief Supply Chain Officer, Johnson & Johnson, and an AWESOME Advisor, became the third woman in more than 50 years to receive the Distinguished Service Award from the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP). At the recent North American Supply Chain Executive Summit, one of the top awards presented was the Supply Chain Recognition Award. Ann Drake, AWESOME founder and Chairman of the Advisory Board of DSC Logistics, received the award, and Barb Schwarzentraub, Director in Global Information Services at Caterpillar, Inc., and an AWESOME Advisor, was a finalist. The third finalist was Jana Gessner, VP of Environmental, Health and Safety at Pepsico. All three were chosen because they serve as “examples and inspirational leaders.” Continue reading

Since the day Johnson & Johnson’s Kathy Wengel began speaking on a panel of supply chain leaders at AWESOME’s first symposium in 2013, she has been an inspiring model of what a leader with courage and competence can do. For the many accomplishments of her 30-year career at Johnson &Johnson and her impact beyond the J&J business, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) has selected Kathy to receive the 2019 Distinguished Service Award.
