A new study conducted by the Women in Trucking (WIT) Association and FreightWaves reveals that many segments of the trucking market are experiencing growth in the percentage of women in a variety of roles, including at the executive level. The founder, President and CEO of WIT is Ellen Voie, a member of the AWESOME Community.
According to the survey report, while women make up approximately 10% of over the road truck drivers (which is a significant rise since the 2018 WIT survey), the percentage of women in executive positions — when the results of asset-only carriers, carriers with 3PL/freight brokerages, and shippers with private fleets are combined — has risen to one-third.
The report breaks down the percentage of women in executive roles, segment by segment. Another finding is that when grouping all trucking categories together, 38.1 percent of fleet safety is managed by women.
Two categories that came in below 30% are female executives at shippers without a private fleet (26.9 percent) – and freight tech companies where 19 percent of executives are women.
