Starbucks COO Roz Brewer, who will be featured in an Up-Close Conversation at the 2019 AWESOME Symposium – May 1-3 in Seattle — has been named to the board of Amazon.com. An article in USA Today calls it a “barrier breaking” appointment because the current Amazon board is all-white.
According to the USA Today article, the appointment comes after Amazon agreed last May to a proposal calling for Amazon to consider women and minorities for board openings. Roz becomes the tenth member of the board and the fourth female director.
The article quotes Robin Kelly, U.S. Representative from Illinois and co-chair of the House Tech Accountability Caucus, as saying, “Roz is a perfect example of the extraordinary minority and female talent that exists in corporate America, that is all too often excluded from the boardroom and the C-Suite.”
