Rising to the top in supply chain

Beth Ford, a recipient of the 2015 AWESOME Legendary Leadership (ALL) Award, talks about the special challenges facing women who want to rise to the top in supply chain in a video interview with SCM World. She encourages women to be fearless in their career decisions and to not be embarrassed to ask questions.

She also describes a common occurrence when a leadership job is posted listing certain requirements. Typically, says Ford, a man will compete for the job if he meets one or some of the criteria; a woman will think she needs to meet every requirement. In this way, women sometimes hold themselves back. She encourages women to have more faith in themselves and “attack” their career.

The SCM World video also features Karen Leggio, Chief Supply Chain Officer, TE Connectivity, advising supply chain professionals to get experience in the broadest possible range of functions, geographies, business units and industries so they are prepared for leadership roles. She adds that companies who want to win the talent war need to win with women.
