Barclays Bank PLC has launched the Barclays Women in Leadership Total Return Index, composed of companies with a female chief executive officer or a board of directors with women as at least one-fourth of board membership. The fund is in response to interest from investors who believe women executives help a company excel.

This comes on the heels of Fortune Magazine’s analysis of data from Factset Research Systems, concluding that Fortune 1000 companies with a woman in the top role saw an average return of 103.4 percent over the women’s tenures, compared to an average 69.5 percent return for the S&P 500 stock index over the same periods.
