MIT team wins case competition sponsored by Patagonia

Elizabeth Raman Grubbs, the recipient of the first AWESOME/MIT Advancing Women through Education (AWE) Fellowship, is a member of the MIT team that won first place in the 2020 Patagonia Case Competition. The sustainability challenge posed by Patagonia related to eliminating pre and post consumer textile waste.

The competition involved 130 teams of graduate students from across the U.S. MIT’s interdisciplinary team consisted of MBAs, PhDs, and Elizabeth, who earned a master’s degree in supply chain management during the 2019-2020 academic year. Six teams were selected to present at the finals, which were hosted virtually by Patagonia’s corporate strategy leadership team. All Patagonia domestic and international employees voted on the winning team.

As first-place winner, the MIT team was awarded $15,000 and the opportunity to collaborate with Patagonia’s leadership team on an implementation plan.

Elizabeth is employed by The Home Depot as Customer Experience Manager. Before attending the master’s in supply chain management program at MIT, she was a Senior Data Analyst at The Home Depot.
