Michelle Halkerston, President, CEO and owner of Hassett Express and an AWESOME Advisor, has been selected as one of five finalists for the 2019 Distinguished Woman in Logistics (DWL) Award presented by Women in Trucking.

Michelle has a unique career path and story. Beginning her career as a computer specialist at NASA Lewis (Glenn) Research Center, she then moved into transportation, serving as Director of eCommerce Strategy for Caliber Logistics (now FedEx SupplyChain) and Director of Logistics Systems for Penske Logistics.

She joined Hassett Air Express in 2001 as Vice President of Strategic Planning, was named President in September 2003 and purchased the company in October 2013.

In an interview with AWESOME Executive Director Heather Sheehan at the AWESOME Regional Event on March 7, Michelle said “There is no ‘one way’ to achieve your goals and dreams, and those dreams will likely evolve over time. And though the practicalities of day-to-day life sometimes divert us from our goals and dreams, don’t give up. “

The DWL award, now in its fifth year, recognizes and honors the contributions and accomplishments of an outstanding individual acknowledged by her peers for achievement and leadership in the field of logistics in North America. By their commitment to their profession, desire to further the industry’s success and participation in civic and community affairs, DWLA award winners exemplify role models for other women seeking or advancing careers in logistics.

The winner will be announced at the opening session of the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) Capital Ideas Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, FL. on Friday, April 12.
