A recent article in MHI Solutions, entitled “Not One of the Guys,” featured a quote by AWESOME Advisor, Michelle Livingstone: “How do you know you’re at a supply chain event? Because the women are walking straight into the restroom, but there’s a line for the men’s room. Michelle was chosen as one of the publication’s “Magnificent Seven Women Supply Chain Leaders.”
The article points out that the predicted need for additional supply chain talent between now and 2025 is causing the profession to look twice at how it can attract, retain, and advance capable women. In a period of just three years, according to U.S. Roadmap for Material Handline & Logistics, 1.4 million new jobs will be created in the supply chain field.
In addition to personal skills and traits required in a supply chain leader, the “Magnificent Women” identified several factors that have contributed to their success: mentorships, willingness to learn something new, confidence to be authentic, and being a team player – all concepts that have been emphasized by participants in AWESOME panel discussions.
The author of the article, Carol Miller, MHI VP of Marketing and Communications Services, also expresses a special thank you to Dr. Nancy Nix, AWESOME Executive Director, for her assistance with the article.
