McDonald’s Corp has become the first restaurant company to set an approved, science based target to cut greenhouse gas emissions and battle climate change. The announcement included a quote from Francesca DeBiase, McDonald’s Chief Supply Chain and Sustainability Officer and an AWESOME network member.

Commenting on the company’s ongoing efforts to use recycled packaging and to recycle packaging used by consumers, Francesca said, “We are about halfway there already on (total) packaging and waste.”

Francesca was one of two 2017 recipients of the AWESOME Legendary Leadership (ALL) Award. In an Up-Close Conversation after the award presentation at the Symposium, she talked about her combined supply chain and sustainability responsibilities, saying the role gives her the opportunity to make an impact.

In an article on aol.com, McDonald’s CEO, Steven Easterbrook is quoted as saying, “To meet this goal, we will source our food responsibly, promote renewable energy and use it efficiently, and reduce waste and increase recycling.”
