Second Lieutenant Melissa Cooling, a candidate for Marine Officer School was interviewed for CBS’ 60 Minutes as she attempted to become the first woman to pass the grueling 14-day combat endurance test. The question for Melissa was how she felt about her odds because in the past two years, 20 women have attempted to pass the test and only one has been successful…so far.

According to CBS, “At 5-foot-2, Cooling is shoulder-high to the men, but she’s a born competitor — most recently as a triathlete. She also happens to have a degree in biomedical engineering and a brother who preceded her into the Marine Corps.”
