GETTING TO YES

Former White House press secretary Dee Dee Myers explained in MORE magazine how she worked through her first instinct to say “no” when she was offered the role of head of global corporate communications and public affairs for Warner Bros.

She said, “I’ve always believe that opportunity often strikes when you aren’t looking for it or least expect it. When I was offered the job at Warner Bros., it took me totally by surprise. The first thing I did was enumerate all the reasons to say no: It would be too hard on the kids. My husband would have to restructure his job. As with so many decisions, there wasn’t an obvious or easy answer. But the opportunity to try something dramatically different, to essentially reinvent ourselves in our early fifties was too compelling to turn down.”
