FIRED NEW YORK TIMES EDITOR TALKS ABOUT WHY IT HAPPENED

July 22, 20141 minute read

In an interview with Katie Couric, two months after the first woman to ever hold the position of executive editor of the New York Times became the first to ever lose that job, Jill Abramson said, “I think that women are scrutinized and criticized in a somewhat different way and that certain qualities that are seen in men as being the qualities of a leader…are somehow not seen in as attractive a light when a woman is involved. And I’m hardly, you know, the first person to observe that.”
However, Abramson doesn’t see “…gender as being…the whole explanation, by any means, of what happened.”

The firing of Abramson also raised the question of the gender wage gap as she allegedly lost her job after raising the question of equal pay.
