Supply Chain Challenges & Capabilities for the Future: A Conversation with Top Executives
A panel of supply chain leaders, all members of the AWESOME network, discussed issues senior executives are facing today and provided insights into a wide range of supply chain challenges and capabilities required for the future.

Common themes included the impact of digitization, changing customer demands, growing regulatory pressures, and speed of change.  To address these challenges, panelists highlighted the need to partner with customers or suppliers and to acquire, develop, retain and advance supply chain talent with great collaborative, data analytics and problem-solving skills.

Moderator of the session was AWESOME Executive Director Dr. Nancy Nix and panelists included Annette Danek-Akey, SVP Fulfillment, Penguin Random House; Michelle Halkerston, President and CEO, Hassett Express; Kathy Wengel, Chief Supply Chain Officer, Johnson & Johnson; and Linda Wood, VP of Operations Services, R. J. Reynolds.

Supply Chain Innovation: Leading Change for Future Success
The mega session featured supply chain experts sharing insights and examples about how to introduce innovative products, services, and process improvements, both in the marketplace and internally within organizations.

The discussion acknowledged how critical innovation is to achieving business success — and the need for leaders to challenge their organizations by driving innovation. The group also discussed the importance of working with strategic partners to achieve innovation, citing specific examples of achievements that were made possible by collaboration.

Panelists for the discussion, moderated by AWESOME’s Executive Director, Dr. Nancy Nix, included Andrea Atwell, VP, Direct to Consumer Ecommerce, CPD, L’Oréal; Darci Harris, VP, Supply, Mars Chocolate, North America; Natalie Putnam, EVP of Customer Solutions, Verst Group Logistics and Heather Sheehan, former VP and co-Chief Procurement Officer, Danaher Corporation Corporation and AWESOME’s Director of Member Engagement and Sponsorships. They are all members of the AWESOME network.

More AWESOME Panelists

In addition to a session and a mega session powered by AWESOME at the CSCMP’s 2016 Annual Conference on September 25-28, two other panel discussions featured an AWESOME Advisor as a panelist and a third session included a panelist who is a 2016 AWESOME Scholar.

On Tuesday, September 26, Heather Sheehan, AWESOME’s Director, Member Engagement & Sponsorships and 2014 recipient of the AWESOME Legendary Leadership (ALL) Award participated in Supply Chain Leader: If I Knew Then What I Know Now.

AWESOME Advisor Mary Long, former VP Logistics & Network Planning, Dominos, was a panelist for the session on “Creating Effective Supply Chain and Sourcing Networks” taking place on Tuesday, September 27.

Also on Tuesday, September 27, from 2 – 3:15 pm, AWESOME Scholar Kyani Alford, an intern with Nestle Purina and student at the University of Arkansas, took part in a session on Women in Logistics and SCM: Talent Development and B2C Impacts on SCM in an Omni-channel World.
