Careers of 2019 AWESOME Excellence in Education Scholars are going strong

AWESOME caught up with news and developments for our 2019 Scholars and found them all involved in exciting first positions. One thing they all have in common is previous experience as interns.

“Internships can be so important toward acquiring strong foundational skills for your first job and expanding your network with mentors that will help you grow throughout your entire career.” said Alyson Weber, a 2019 AWESOME Scholar. “One thing AWESOME leaders can do to help foster growth and future leadership in their own organization is to make credible internships available to young professionals.”

Alyson is now a Sourcing Analyst at General Mills after graduating from Syracuse University. Her previous experience includes being a Business Process/Purchasing Supply Chain Intern at UChicago Medicine and a Logistics Network Strategy Intern for USFoods

Gabrielle (Gabby) Burns, who graduated from Auburn University in December of 2019, is now a Solutions Engagement Supervisor at UPS. She worked as a Global Customer Solutions Intern for UPS during the 2018 and 2019 summers and was also a UPS Campus Brand Ambassador from January 2019 until January 2020.

Katie Gustas is a 2020 graduate of the Smeal College of Business at Penn State University. In October she began a role as Core Operations Advisory Associate at KPMG US. She served as a Product Operations and Procurement Advisory Intern for KPMG during the summer of 2019 and also had experience in the Supply Planning Consumer Co-op for Johnson & Johnson.

McKenzie Meehan graduated in 2020 from the University of Arkansas – Sam M. Walton College of Business and is now a Business Management Associate at General Mills. While at Arkansas, she served as president of the WISE organization (Women Impacting Supply Chain Excellence), which recently held its second annual Symposium. In the position as Campus Leader for General Mills, McKenzie created a comprehensive plan to provide students with the opportunities General Mills has available for full-time and internship positions is now a Business Management Associate at General Mills. She also served as  a Product Development intern with Academy Sports + Outdoors.

Kailey Peterson is a 2020 graduate of Michigan State University and works for Kohler Co. as a Supply Chain Associate. She made very good use of her summers during college, completing internships for McLaren Healthcare, Altria, and a Supply Planning Intern for PepsiCo.
