— Anne-Marie Slaughter, president and CEO of the nonpartisan think tank “New America” and author of Unfinished Business: Women Men Work Family in an interview on CNN Money. She makes the case that “women are outperforming men until they reach the point in their careers when they want to start having children or have to care for other loved ones” when the workforce forces them to make a choice.
Prior to her current CEO role, Slaughter served in the U.S. State Department from 2009-2011 as the director of policy planning and she is a Professor Emerita of Politics and International Affairs at Princeton University and the former dean of its Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
Slaughter also states that, as a nation, we need to focus more attention on quality child care so our children can reach their full potential – another factor that will impact U.S. competitiveness in future generations. She says her own sons are being raised to be “lead parents” as much as they are to be breadwinners.
